Its good, as long as you dont mind paying through the teeth to 'slum' it

The best thing about this hotel is the location, its close to everything, but I can honestly say the everything else was horrible. The staff were like Demontours from Harry Potter, trying to suck the life out of you. Our first room was a smoking room, it stuck. At first I couldnt find the bathroom, silly me, it was hiding at the back of the closet. If you've ever seen the film Elf and remember the scene where Buddy takes a elf size shower, you get the idea. We asked for a different room, after all we paid over £100 per night for this room. And we were stunned when they told us they had loads available, it made me wonder why we didnt get a better room to start off with. Our second room was okay, much better than the first, but it was facing on to 5th Ave. I didnt get a good nights sleep at all, and its true what other people say, THE HOTEL STINKS. I cant even explain the smell, it was like beef mixed with strawberries. So to sum up It stunk Its noisy - take some ear plugs Its uncomfortable Ask for an upgrade if you're not happy Be aware that the muffins taste like they were made with sawdust But there is one positive that came out of my stay - the location for sightseeing, its good, if you dont mind paying a lot for slumming it!

The hotel is right in the middle of Manhattan, you can see the Empire State buiding from the front of the hotel and it is a short walk to Time Square, it is also really close to the Subway. The hotel is clean and there is tea/coffee and muffins in the foyer in the morning.

Its superb location a few yards off fifth avenue. A few yards from the base/entrance to the Empire State building; a short distance from Time Square; on the same road as one of the entrances to Central park; a short walk from the Rock.

The hotel was extremely central, so that was a huge advantage. Most NYC rooms are fairly disappointing and the Wolcott rooms were no different. The bathroom is tiny and the showers aren't great- but it is manageable. We stayed for 3 nights and that was just about the limit for this type of room, as there is not much space in the room. The hotel is really a sleep only location, not really designed for lounging or spending too much time in. The hotel says it offers breakfast- however, this consists of a bland muffin and cup of coffee.

The Walcott was ldeally located for sightseeing, shopping and was only a short distance from the heart of Manhattan and Times Square. We only took a taxi once during our entire stay as we felt completely safe walking back from surrounding areas. the room was adequate and clean although we did not spend much time in it. We had a late night return flight and the hotel provided secured storage for our bags, allowing us to make the most of our last day without having to worry about them. The hotel also had a bus service which picked us up at the hotel and took us to the airport for a reasonable fee. These buses were fairly frequent and weresuited to departure times from several airports. (Just one less thing to worry about!) I was there with my daughter who is 25 and both of us felt our accomodation was ideal as we were 'on the go' all the time.

A central place to sleep - not much more than that!

The Wolcott is in a central location in New York and close to subway, cafes and in walking distance of most attractions. Fairly clean but very old-fashioned, outdated and gloomy- "faded glory". Breakfast consists of coffee and muffins in the lobby, which is okay if you are on a very tight budget but isn't great and we preferred to breakfast in a local diner. No atmosphere, but a reasonable place to rest your head, especially if you won't spend much time in your hotel.

A Room for 4 adults made quality hotel budget price in NYC

The hotel reception area was fab and not normally found in a budget hotel. I enjoyed escaping from the rest of my party for a quiet half hour reading or just watching events in the lobby. Our roomwas quite large. Four of us in one room made it economical. 2 singles and a fold away bed in one room plus another single bed through an archway. High standard of decor and cleaning. TV in aech "room" Location is between Empire State and Maceys and we walked back from Times Square a couple of nights which was fine. So good location.

My new wife and i where on our honeymoon and we did not like the location or facilities available at hotel no bar, resturant, also the breakfast was tea coffee & muffins noy much choice. I would rather have spent more money on a more central hotel.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!

Location is excellent - literally 90 seconds from the Empire State Building. Apart from that this is a place to avoid - the staff make you feel like you're an inconvenience (which after a 20 hour flight from Oz wasn't what we needed), and their recommendations are awful. For example we wanted show tickets (which the hotel proudly claims it can get you at a reduced rate), and were told that we should buy from them straight away there and then because they'd get a cheap rate and could guarantee tickets. Thankfully we decided that this was a blatant lie. We went to Times Square and picked up a couple of seats for that night HALF PRICE! We also went to the box office for the Lion King (which the hotel had told us was sold out for months, but they could do us a favour and try to get us some tickets - of course there and then at that precise moment) and got seats in the middle, six rows back, for about $20 LESS than the hotel had quoted. Next - as it was our first time in NYC we decided to buy tickets for one of the multiple tour buses available. We bought from a ticket seller outside the Empire State Building, and got an extra free day, Empire State tickets, a free boat ride to the Statue of Liberty, free tickets to the New York Museum, free Brooklyn tour etc. All for $74. Not a bad deal, we thought. A couple of days later we overheard the hotel offering a similar deal to ours, but without all the free stuff (e.g. the extra day etc) for MORE money than we paid 90 seconds down the road. This place clearly takes advantage of the naivety of its residents, who are all without doubt first-timers in NYC (NO ONE would stay at this place if they knew any better). DO NOT LISTEN TO THEIR ADVICE. There are other hotels close by that will either be cheaper or better (or probably both). And then there's the "breakfast". Oh the breakfast. There is nowhere to sit, and all you get is a muffin (a sweet one, improperly labelled) on a paper plate. The beverage choices are tea or coffee. Not water. It was a joke. The internet access is a waste of time - it takes nearly a minute to connect (which counts as part of your 4 minutes for $1) and it not as "high speed" as they claim. There are countless internet cafes around the area that are cheaper. The payphones inside the hotel are more expensive than those just outside on the street. Oh yeah and the shower pipe was hanging off the wall. This place is not budget - it's a waste of money. AVOID!!!
